Uncle Ted

We just had an amazing long Labor Day weekend with Uncle Ted.

Ted got to spend a lot of quality time with Z. IT was awesome to watch his evolution from an observer to an interactive uncle. Every morning, Z was thrust into his bed (Ted loves to sleep in) where she would giggle and jostle. Ted got to take her around town, place her in and out of her car seat and feed her lots of yummy food. They played on the carpet with Z’s toys and spent time just being in each other’s company. Shannon and I were ecstatic to have Z interact with more of her family.

While Ted was here, Z began mastering the art of drinking from her sippy cup and moving more on her belly. She should be crawling soon (we hope).

A few of the other highlights of this past weekend…

We had a huge fiesta at the house on Friday night. Tons of folks showed up from work and from the neighborhood. We celebrated the construction of the deck. Folks drank and danced and laughed and gossiped all night long. The most amazing part was that Z managed to sleep through most of the party. Although she did wake up a few times and I had to put her down, she was a champ most of the night.

We hit two great WNC festivals. The Lexington Arts Festival in downtown Asheville was a pleasant surprise for Ted. He got to see Asheville’s freak flag flown loudly. Z slept most of the time out there. The Apple Festival in Hendersonville was also a neat family event. We had some tasty apple foods and strolled the historic downtown district.

And of course, we had to take Uncle Ted to the Admiral. Z continued her string of perfect baby behavior in a restaurant. Ted had his first exposure to frog legs and rabbit.

All in all, it was a great experience for everyone. Ted came away rested and with a deeper connection with Shan and Z. Shan got to enjoy some breaks while I worked. I go to have my brother around. And Z, well, she was able to have more family around her and that is always a good thing.
