Folly Beach Day 1

We awoke bright and early today as Zahra cried from her crib to rouse us up. We opened the window shades and saw the glorious morning beach scene below in awe. This hotel has a nice view, that's for sure. After eating some breakfast in the room courtesy of Publix, we marched down to the beach for a day of sun and fun. It was already baking when we arrived at the shore. Zahra didn't know what to make of all the sand on her feet. The water was luke warm and we played in it for a while. Shannon was done after a few minutes but toughed it out for me. I was loving the warm surf and the sun. The beach was calm, not full of folks as it was on Sunday when we arrived. After a quick change, we took a walk down the main strip. Folly has a small main drag of about two dozen stores, restaurants and bars. We did a little window shopping and ended up having some lunch at a local place that served some decent crab cakes. We finished the busy first half of the day taking a walk on the Folly Beach pier. It was so hot though that we only got to go halfway.

We headed back to the room and Zahra took a nice nap. Shannon and I spent some quality time together (mainly napping) and were awakened by a horrific sound. Zahra was having a night terror. She was thrashing wildly and screaming like a siren. Each time Shan or I tried to comfort her, she looked right through us and went even crazier. We were both shocked. After nearly eight minutes of this insanity, she finally calmed down. We spent the next ten minutes trying to look up what had happened and discovered it was a night terror. More on this later.

We headed towards the pool for some more fun. Zahra loved it! She was splashing and having a ball in the water. Then we did some strolling on the beach. Zahra just could not stand when the water rolled in. She would scurry like a mouse squealing all the way towards dry sand. She was starting to hit the wall. But it was only 5:30 and we needed to do dinner. We came back to the room, changed again and went for our final walk of the evening. We walked along the main strip some more and eventually settled on a place called Rita's. It was the best food we'd had since we arrived. We took the grub back to the room, had a nice relaxing family dinner and settled in for the night.
