This particular Monday began like all of the rest. I rose to a dark room and a cold floor. I made my way through the routine; get dressed, feed animals, feed self, brush teeth, walk dog, get ready for bike ride. I always manage to give Shannon a good bye kiss. Today I had two kisses. It was nice.
So I make it to work after an exhilarating bike ride (a slight chill at 43 degrees) and get moving. I exchange some hugs and words with my co-workers and then the kids come in.
We had a great day! I presented my blog to the students. They loved it. We went through our lessons fairly efficiently and without any disruptions. The kids lost their cool at lunch so I had to give them the dreaded silent lunch (which was greeted with many groans and heavy sighs). I was thinking "This isn't so bad. I can do this. I am the man!". Ah, life never fails to throw an ice cold bucket of reality when you're wrapped up in your own hot air. I felt this punch of tiredness at around 1 P.M. It hit me quickly and without warning. I managed to work through it but was spent as the last child left the building. As I went to get my bike to start the race home, I noticed I had a flat. I hoofed it over to the bike shop. As I was walking there, a Good Samaritan (my friend Jaime, you rock!) gave me a lift to the shop. After I had the tire fixed, I made my way home to find a tired and cranky Shannon, feeding the baby. Seems like Shannon's day went like mine. Great start, rocky finish. Shan told me Z had been crying from about 1 until the moment I walked in (3:30 P.M.). I took Z and wrapped her up and in moments, she was out like a light. I got a look from my wife that was priceless.
So Z is rocking away in her swing, out like a light and we are scrambling around to do everything (including typing this). And it's only the first Work Monday with Z of the rest of our lives.
