Mom and I have been going through some interesting moments with our daughter lately. Since Tuesday, we have been to the pediatrician and the hospital. The visits are to determine whether Z has silent reflux, a condition that seems to fit some of her symptoms.
Zahra has been struggling with Mom to have successful feedings during the day. By that I mean she is constantly feeding, yet not always happy when she is feeding. She is obviously eating well because she has gained 3 and a half pounds since birth (to which the pediatrician remarked, "I'm surprised to see such growth!"). It's just that she get cranky and goes through screaming fits with Shannon that last for hours. I've seen them on the weekend as well.
After our visits with professionals, we have discovered a few things we will adjust to make baby Z the happiest girl in the world. First, we have to make her feedings last longer and get her out of the snacking habit she is in. This on demand feeding is making Shannon's life difficult. Of course, trying to wrestle with Shannon out of this habit will be my job. Next, we have to keep her upright after feedings and really concentrate more on the burping aspect. We sometimes neglect that and it's costing us. Finally, Shannon purchased an electric breast pump to help soothe her clogged ducts and to try and get Z to feed some from the bottle. We also got a prescription of Zantac for her possible reflux condition. The doctor informed us that if the medicine eases her fussiness, then it should resolve itself as her digestive system matures. We have yet to get the meds because Shan is always hesitant with medicines. I'm on the fence with it myself since I am also not a big meds guy (unless they are natural).
Anyhow, right now the girls are resting and I find it hard to believe its the weekend. I am trying to get as much done while they are down since the house seems to be piled with trash and messiness that gets overlooked during the hectic work week. In fact, there is Shannon calling me from the room now...
